This small cup with a saucer and lid was made at the St Petersburg factory during the Vinogradov period. At that time porcelain items were marked with the Russian state coat-of-arms – a double-headed eagle beneath a crown, most often impressed into the paste or else painted in black on top of the glaze. This piece is distinguished by a gold eagle, which is evidence of the exalted status of its owner, whose monogram in Cyrillic letters is artfully composed from garlands of flowers.
